Description:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist will provide care for pediatric patients.
The therapist will be proficient in medication aerosol therapy, including small volume nebulizers and breath actuated nebulizers.
Patient education for aerosol, metered-dose inhalers, and dry powder inhalers is required.
Experience with pentamidine administration and bar coding medication administration is necessary.
The therapist will utilize airway clearance therapy techniques, such as clapping, vibration, and directed cough.
Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) and oscillatory PEP techniques will be part of the role.
Hyperinflation therapy, high-frequency chest wall oscillation, and intermittent percussive ventilation will be performed.
Assistance with cough and airway management will be essential.
Suctioning and tracheostomy care will be part of the responsibilities.
Manual ventilation and ventilator system checks will be conducted regularly.
The therapist will work with CPAP, BiPAP, and non-invasive ventilation.
High-risk delivery procedures will include surfactant administration and T-piece ventilation.
Blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation are required.
Humidity therapy techniques must be applied, including the use of aerosol masks and trach collars.
Clinical practice guidelines for asthma care and cystic fibrosis management will be followed.
Monitoring of pulse oximetry, peak flow meters, and capnography is expected.
Spontaneous breathing trials and transcutaneous CO2 monitoring will be performed.
The therapist will facilitate transport of patients using portable units and provide care during MRI procedures.
Expertise in oxygen and special gas therapy, including high-flow nasal cannula and inhaled nitric oxide, is essential.
Cleaning and maintaining equipment will be a part of job duties.
The therapist will interface with various healthcare professionals including attending physicians, residents, and nursing staff.
