Description: The Respiratory Therapist RRT provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients. This role is designed to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. The position acts as a resource to the CRT staff. The RRT may be responsible for special clinical projects or assignments as designated by leadership according to departmental needs. Responsibilities include performing, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol. Obtaining arterial gases and overseeing the operation of equipment for optimal patient care are required. Initiation of Respiratory Protocol according to department criteria is expected. The RRT will initiate interventions based on the interpretation of assessments. Administering medications in a timely and safe manner is critical. The RRT will evaluate the effects of administered medications and re-evaluate appropriately. Communication of patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments is necessary. Maintaining awareness of assigned patients' overall condition is vital. The RRT will recognize the educational needs of patients and families. Teaching patients and families self-care techniques and modalities is part of the role. Documentation according to departmental standards must be completed. The RRT is responsible for monitoring supplies and equipment. Utilizing time effectively to achieve productivity standards is essential. Participation in quality and patient safety initiatives is required. The RRT will identify potential areas for improvement. They may need to float to other departments based on business needs. On-call duties during regularly scheduled shifts may be required. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
