Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Profession: Respiratory Care Practitioner Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 (5:30 PM - 6:00 AM) Experience: 1+ years in respiratory therapy License: Illinois RCP license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist Must-Have: - Skills in respiratory therapy, ventilator management, electrocardiogram, oxygen administration, and airway management. - Basic knowledge of pulmonary and cardiovascular anatomy and physiology. Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides all aspects of respiratory care under the guidance of a qualified physician and the Director of Respiratory Therapy. Effectively administers oxygen mixtures utilizing various oxygen delivery devices. Sets up, initiates, and maintains ventilators and CPAP devices. Assists with intubation and is familiar with the principles of airway maintenance, endotracheal, and tracheostomy care. Follows procedures and observations for care during and after extubation. Initiates and maintains cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other related life support procedures. Confers with physicians regarding all aspects of respiratory therapy concerning patient care. Interprets and carries out physician orders. Administers specific dosages of all respiratory therapy-related medications as specified by a physician. Recognizes, interprets, and records signs and symptoms of medication side effects, particularly those that require notification of a physician. Effectively and safely uses equipment for delivering positive pressure, humidification, nebulization, and medications to patients. Utilizes methods that assist in the removal of secretions from the bronchial tree such as hydration, breathing and coughing exercises, postural drainage, chest percussion, and airway suctioning. Performs all aspects of pulmonary function testing, if trained, and effectively uses all department pulmonary function equipment. Performs 12-lead EKGs and prepares them for physician interpretation. Capable of overseeing the work of certified and non-certified technicians who are performing procedures requiring high expertise, when needed. Can dismantle and reassemble most respiratory therapy equipment. Takes all necessary precautions to ensure the safe handling of all respiratory equipment. Works well with patients of all age levels and is sensitive to the age-specific needs of each individual patient. Adapts the clinical approach accordingly. Works independently and can supervise the needs of their shifts when required. Practices the WAY TO BE standards. Performs arterial punctures and arterial line draws in accordance with guidelines and competencies. Sets up BiPap and Opiflow devices and evaluates the patient’s response to therapy.
