The Respiratory Therapist will utilize knowledge, judgment and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate respiratory care for patients. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and coordinate high-quality respiratory care with an emphasis on compassion. Primary responsibilities include assessing patients and recommending respiratory therapy treatments. The role involves planning, preparing, and administering respiratory therapy treatments, including aerosolized medication and ventilator management in accordance with established policies. Monitoring patients on mechanical ventilation and making necessary changes according to department policy is essential. Accurate documentation of patient treatment, response, and progress in the EMR is required. Performing diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function and sleep studies is part of the responsibilities. The therapist must inspect, test, maintain and operate all respiratory therapy equipment. Responding to emergency calls and maintaining patient airway while performing CPR are crucial tasks. Consulting with physicians and providing information and suggestions for treatment modalities is expected. Assisting physicians in instructing patients and their families on equipment usage and self-care techniques is essential. Participation in in-service education programs is required. Maintaining stocks of disposable and non-disposable equipment, including medical gas tanks, is necessary. Cleaning, assembling, and maintaining all equipment used by the department is a responsibility of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. The physical requirements consist of prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and walking throughout the working day. The position may involve stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
