Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and treat patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, nebulizer treatments, and other respiratory therapies
- Manage and monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation and non-invasive respiratory support
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis
- Monitor patient response to respiratory treatments and adjust care plans as appropriate
- Assist physicians during emergency airway management, intubations, and code situations
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, medications, equipment use, and home care instructions
- Perform pulmonary function testing and other diagnostic respiratory procedures as required
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, and departmental policies
Requirements
- Active West Virginia State License for Respiratory Therapy
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC
- Minimum 1 year of recent Respiratory Therapy experience
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
- Strong knowledge of ventilator management, emergency respiratory care, and critical care procedures
- Experience caring for adult and pediatric patients preferred
- Excellent assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced acute care environment
