Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a night shift acute care position requiring at least 1 year of experience including NICU care.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with a Level III trauma designation
  • Respiratory Therapy department covering inpatient and ER areas
  • Patient population ranges from NICU to geriatrics, including ICU, stepdown, MedSurg, and a small Peds unit (no PICU)
  • Handles up to 30 treatments per shift depending on seasonal demand
  • Uses Drager vents, Cervo-NICU, Hamilton transport vent, Vapotherm, and Philips V60/V30 equipment
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 6p-6:30a
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend
  • Floating required to ICU, floors, NICU, and ER
  • First to float among staff
  • Low census call requirement per contract
  • Self-scheduling with block scheduling option, though special scheduling requests are not accepted
  • Holiday coverage required if there is a need
  • Team lead or charge therapist always present on shift

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required
  • NICU experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC required
  • STABLE and NRP certifications required for those handling NICU/babies
  • License required if applicable
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • First-time travelers will be considered
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Perform ABG draws and analysis, breathing treatments, BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilator management
  • May assist with bedside bronchoscopy and intubation, including LMA placement
  • Does not perform EKGs
  • Never the sole RT in-house; always supported by a team lead or charge therapist
  • May serve as charge therapist depending on experience level and willingness
  • Unit-specific orientation is approximately 1 week based on experience
  • Must attend department meetings once per month
  • Any color scrubs permitted
  • Facility maintains a 50-mile radius rule; local candidates within this radius are not eligible
  • Former permanent employees must wait at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
