Responsibilities
- Deliver bedside respiratory therapy, including assessment, airway management, airway clearance techniques, bronchodilator therapies, and oxygen delivery per physician orders.
- Manage ventilator support and related equipment; monitor patient response and adjust settings per protocol.
- Perform ABG collection and interpretation; administer and monitor inhaled medications; participate in patient and family education.
- Document care in the electronic medical record (Epic) and maintain accurate therapy logs; utilize the Pyxis system for medication distribution.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams; participate in rounds and care planning; respond quickly to changes in patient status.
- Provide care across units for a diverse patient population and float to assigned areas as needed; NICU newborn and pediatric experience is preferred; maintain high standards of safety and infection control.
- Adhere to unit priorities, holiday requirements, and scheduling expectations; demonstrate flexibility to meet patient care needs.
Requirements
- Vermont state licensure as a respiratory care practitioner; active license required.
- Certification: NBRC Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or eligible to take NBRC written examination.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS; NRP required upon submission; NBRC verification.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience; minimum 2 years in specialty; NICU experience within the last year preferred.
- Epic experience within the past 2 years; familiarity with Pyxis and hospital documentation systems.
- Ability to work in a hospital setting, to float to multiple units (including M/S, ED, NICU) as needed, and to work 12-hour night shifts; travel eligibility and reliable transportation to/from assignment location.
