    Key Responsibilities
    • Provides intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision
    • Conducts physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
    • Performs arterial puncture, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition
    • Performs tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes, as well as insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
    • Assists with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
    • Records all pertinent treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts; communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness
    Required Qualifications
    • Current Virginia Respiratory Therapist license required
    • BLS certification required
    • ACLS certification required
    • Ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment and perform equipment self-tests
    • Availability to cover Christmas and one additional major holiday during the contract period
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
    • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar chest drainage devices
    • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
