Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans with minimal supervision
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial puncture, and routine chest x-ray review
  • Perform and assist with advanced procedures including bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion and removal, 12-Lead EKG, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in patient records and charts; communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active Virginia Respiratory Therapist license
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen delivery systems, and nebulizer devices
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture, pulmonary function studies, and advanced airway management techniques
  • Strong documentation skills with experience recording treatment data and patient responses in clinical records
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and pre/post-analytic testing phases
  • Familiarity with video laryngoscope systems and PleurX catheter drainage procedures
  • Experience with shift-to-shift handoff communication and walking rounds reporting
