Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
Perform arterial punctures, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
Insert and remove endotracheal tubes via free hand technique and/or video laryngoscope; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds
Required Qualifications
Current, active Virginia Respiratory Therapist license
BLS and ACLS certification required
Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment
Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency
Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases (where applicable)
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience assisting with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement procedures
Familiarity with PleurX catheter or similar pleural drainage devices
Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
