Alaska TDY Respiratory Therapist

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide full scope of cardiopulmonary services to patients of all ages, ensuring care is delivered with respect for patient rights and dignity
  • Perform airway management including intubation assist, patient suctioning, and chest physiotherapy
  • Operate and manage adult, pediatric, and infant ventilators; perform ABG procurement and analysis using ISTAT analyzer
  • Administer respiratory therapy medications and treatments, documenting all therapies accurately in patient records
  • Conduct pulmonary function testing, RSV and AFB sample procurement, and stress/treadmill testing
  • Assist with problem solving across all aspects of patient care and contribute to the revision of departmental procedure manuals
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Therapy program with an Associate of Science degree, or equivalent approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in respiratory treatment within a hospital setting
  • Active National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential: CRTT, CRT, RT, or RRT
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Proficiency with respiratory therapy equipment including ventilators, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, supplemental oxygen delivery devices, EKG machines, and Holter/event monitors
  • Ability to read and interpret physician orders, technical manuals, and hospital and departmental policies
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • ACLS and PALS certification
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations requiring interpreter services or multilingual communication support
  • Familiarity with CPR, intubation assist procedures, and advanced cardiopulmonary technical skills across all age groups
