    Key Responsibilities
    • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
    • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial puncture procedures.
    • Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of patient chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
    • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
    • Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment as needed.
    • Document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in patient records; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication.
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Respiratory Therapist license within the state of Illinois.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen delivery systems, and aerosol and nebulizer devices.
    • Proficiency in arterial puncture, endotracheal intubation via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • Ability to perform pulmonary function studies and interpret results with minimal supervision.
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Experience in moderate complexity laboratory testing, including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation in accordance with pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
    • Experience with PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage devices.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide patient and family education regarding treatments, equipment, and discharge instructions.
