Key Responsibilities- Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans; conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices
- Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, and pulmonary function studies
- Perform arterial punctures, 12-Lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of chest x-rays
- Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
- Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; facilitate preventative maintenance and repair as needed
- Document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately; communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication
Required Qualifications- Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable scope of practice
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and respiratory care devices
- Ability to perform arterial punctures, endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and provide intensive respiratory care including patient transport
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols
- Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar chest drainage devices
- Experience providing patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments and home discharge instructions
