Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision, including evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial puncture, and routine chest x-ray review.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal tube insertion and removal via freehand technique or video laryngoscope.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist licensure or certification as required by state regulations.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen delivery systems, and aerosol devices.
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during night shift hours.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols.
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures or similar chest drainage devices.
  • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation.
