Job Title

Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision; evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
  • Operate ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation; perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
  • Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of patient chest x-rays.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Perform arterial punctures, interpret results to determine ventilation efficiency, and conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines; perform endotracheal tube insertion and removal via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication during walking rounds.
Required Qualifications
  • Active New Jersey State Respiratory Therapist licensure required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain various mechanical ventilators and respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Proficiency in arterial puncture, pulmonary function testing, and interpretation of results.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience assisting with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement procedures.
  • Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing policies and procedures, including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation.
  • Experience with PleurX catheter drainage or similar pleural drainage devices.
