Key Responsibilities- Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
- Perform arterial punctures, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
- Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
- Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
- Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
- Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication
Required Qualifications- Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Demonstrated ability to operate ventilatory, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer equipment
- Proficiency in arterial puncture, suctioning techniques, and pulmonary function studies
- Ability to perform endotracheal intubation and tracheostomy care independently
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and within the full scope of professional licensure
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols
- Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar chest drainage devices
- Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
