Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, evaluating patients and recommending appropriate treatment plans within the scope of professional licensure.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and routine chest x-ray review.
  • Perform arterial punctures, 12-Lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, tracheostomy care, and insertion and removal of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff and with attending physicians.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state scope of practice.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Proficiency with mechanical ventilation equipment setup, self-testing, operation, and monitoring.
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency.
  • Competency in performing pulmonary function studies, oximetry, capnography, and chest physiotherapy.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience assisting with advanced procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement.
  • Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing policies and procedures including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation.
  • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation.
