Key Responsibilities
Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
Perform ventilator management including setup, self-testing, operation, and monitoring of mechanical ventilation equipment, with a focus on ventilator weaning.
Perform arterial punctures, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, 12-Lead EKGs, and basic arrhythmia recognition.
Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal tube insertion and removal.
Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), and chest drainage via PleurX catheter or similar device where applicable.
Document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in patient records and communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians.
Required Qualifications
Active Respiratory Therapist license — must be in hand at time of placement.
Ventilator weaning experience required.
BLS and ACLS certification required.
Proficiency with both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment.
Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation.
Familiarity with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal tube insertion and removal.
Experience assisting with bronchoscopy and percutaneous tracheostomy procedures.
