Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision
Conduct physician-prescribed treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, arterial puncture, pulmonary function studies, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition
Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in emergent and non-emergent situations
Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
Document all treatments and patient responses accurately in respiratory care records and the patient chart; communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication
Required Qualifications
Active Respiratory Therapist license in good standing
Current BLS and ACLS certification
Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and related respiratory care equipment
Ability to perform endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
Competency in arterial puncture and interpretation of arterial blood gas results
Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols
Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage devices
Experience with routine chest X-ray review to assess patient status and identify need for further evaluation
