Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices
  • Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans; explain procedures, treatments, and equipment to patients and provide discharge education
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial puncture
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, tracheostomy care, and insertion/removal of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, patient responses, respiratory therapy charges, and communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
  • Active Michigan Respiratory Therapist license (required prior to hire)
  • Current ACLS certification (required prior to hire)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment and perform equipment self-tests
  • Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases (where applicable)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter or similar chest drainage devices
  • Ability to perform routine chest x-ray review to assess need for further evaluation
