Key Responsibilities
  • Provides intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans within the scope of professional licensure.
  • Conducts physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial puncture, and routine chest x-ray review.
  • Performs and assists with advanced procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion and removal, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Sets up, operates, maintains, and monitors mechanical ventilation equipment; assists with preventative maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Accurately records treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts; communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and participates in shift-to-shift handoff communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Michigan Respiratory Therapist license required prior to start.
  • Active ACLS certification required prior to start.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to operate various ventilatory, aerosol, and nebulizer equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Competency in performing arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing procedures, including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation.
  • Flexibility to work both day and night shifts as needed.
