Key Responsibilities
  • Provides intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices
  • Performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and routine chest x-ray review
  • Performs arterial puncture, 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Assists with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
  • Sets up, self-tests, operates, and monitors mechanical ventilation equipment; assists with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
  • Documents all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in patient records and charts; communicates findings to attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture and interpret arterial blood gas results
  • Experience with endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and within the full scope of professional licensure
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage devices
  • Experience performing pulmonary function studies such as NIF and VC
