Position Overview A well-established healthcare organization seeks an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse for a 90-day onsite contract in Silver Spring, Maryland. This role supports a busy birthing unit requiring strong clinical judgment and composure under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum patients
Monitor fetal status via continuous electronic fetal monitoring and interpret tracings
Administer oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, and other high-alert medications per protocol
Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries and support the OR/scrub role as needed
Recognize and escalate obstetric emergencies including shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and eclampsia
Educate patients and families on labor progress, pain management options, and newborn care
Document nursing assessments and interventions accurately in the EHR
Requirements
Active RN license in good standing (compact or Maryland)
Minimum 2 years recent Labor and Delivery experience
ACLS, BLS, and NRP certification required
Proficiency with electronic fetal monitoring
Must reside 60+ miles from facility (travel assignment requirement)
Preferred Qualifications
AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification
OR/scrub experience for cesarean delivery
Epic EHR experience
