Registered Nurse - Long Term Care (Night Shift)

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our long-term care team on the night shift. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to elderly residents in a skilled nursing facility, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being during overnight hours while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to long-term care residents including medication administration, wound care, catheter care, and monitoring of chronic conditions

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and document changes in resident conditions, reporting significant findings to physicians and day shift staff

  • Respond to medical emergencies, falls, and acute changes in resident status with appropriate interventions

  • Administer medications according to physician orders and facility protocols, including PRN medications and pain management

  • Perform skilled nursing procedures such as tube feedings, tracheostomy care, and ventilator management as needed

  • Maintain accurate electronic health records and complete required documentation per regulatory standards

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and social workers

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations including CMS guidelines and facility policies

  • Provide emotional support and advocacy for residents and their families

  • Participate in care plan meetings and quality assurance activities

  • Mentor and provide guidance to nursing staff and new employees

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in state of practice

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (long-term care or geriatric experience preferred)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Computer proficiency with electronic health records

Preferred Qualifications

  • Long-term care or skilled nursing facility experience

  • Travel nursing experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during 12-hour shifts

  • Lift up to 50 pounds with proper body mechanics

  • Visual acuity to assess residents and read documentation
