Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Visual Monitor Unit (VMU) telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience and the ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance.

Details

  • Visual Monitor Unit (VMU) is a Med/Surg Telemetry unit for inpatients who may have a behavioral health component requiring additional safety monitoring — this is not a psychiatric unit
  • Common patient population includes those with a secondary psychiatric diagnosis, such as confusion, dementia, and low cognitive ability; average length of stay is approximately 4 days
  • 14-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Charting is performed in Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every 3rd weekend is required (4 total weekend shifts per 4-week period)
  • Holiday coverage follows the permanent staff rotation
  • Floating may be required to ED psych holds or Med/Surg floors
  • A SWAT RN IV team, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and 24/7 Pharmacy are available on site
  • A Psych MD is present on the unit; charge nurse carries a patient assignment
  • Behavioral health techs and a security team provide video monitoring support for all patients on the unit

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience is required
  • Med/Surg Telemetry experience is required
  • Psychiatric nursing experience is preferred but not required
  • Cerner EMR experience
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to an offer being confirmed — two attempts are allowed
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as determined by driver's license address
  • On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been released for breaking sterile field, so proficiency in maintaining sterile field is essential
  • Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • A pass/fail exam is also administered on Day 1 of orientation — additional details will be provided upon acceptance
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
  • All patients are video monitored by security; physical restraints are rare, though chemical restraints are used
  • Nurses are expected to have their own vehicle
  • Navy scrubs are required; panic buttons are provided
  • Natural hair color is required and facial piercings are not permitted; male nurses must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Candidates who fail both attempts of the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique test will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento region positions for 6 months
