Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring critical care experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 15-bed Surgical/Trauma ICU within a Level I trauma facility
• Care for adult surgical and trauma critical care patients
• 1:2 patient ratio
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
• Must adhere to facility float policy within scope of practice

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license (pending accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; TNCC preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent SICU experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, ventilator patient care, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
• Experience with continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation, and titrating vasoactive drips required
• Experience managing dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
• Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, spinal cord injury, and TBI care preferred
• Chest tube insertion/removal assistance and GI surgery experience preferred
• Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience preferred
• Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to surgically and traumatically injured adult ICU patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with all time off disclosed at time of consideration
• Disclose any planned vacation time between sign date and start date to establish an appropriate start date
• Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or travelers) must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days at the facility and are ineligible to return once this threshold is reached
• No radius restriction applies to this unit
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this role
