Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical ICU night shift position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of an academic teaching hospital
  • Trauma Level II unit
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
  • Schedule includes every Friday night, every Saturday night, plus one additional night per week
  • 36 hours per week
  • Floating required
  • Call required
  • Uses Epic for documentation
  • Uses Pyxis, Accudose, and Omnicell medication systems
  • Uses SBAR for communication

Requirements

  • Active Ohio or compact RN license required, in hand at time of consideration
  • 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU experience preferred
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
  • Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal and managing BiPAP/CPAP and ventilated patients
  • Experience with high flow nasal cannula and interpretation of ABGs
  • Experience with acute/chronic renal failure management
  • Skilled in continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation monitoring, and titrating vasoactive drips
  • GI surgery care experience
  • Skilled in infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, and phlebotomy
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Experience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure patients
  • IV insulin protocol experience
  • Experience with post-neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care
  • Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience preferred
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to surgical and trauma ICU patients including those with multisystem organ dysfunction
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract to remain compliant with credentialing timelines
