Travel ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

Join a high-acuity Surgical ICU as a Travel Registered Nurse in New Haven, Connecticut. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers experienced critical care nurses the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients in a Level I trauma setting while collaborating with an experienced interdisciplinary healthcare team. Travel Nurse Job Details

• Position: Travel ICU Registered Nurse – Surgical Intensive Care Unit
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Location: New Haven, Connecticut
• Healthcare Setting: High-acuity Surgical ICU in a Level I trauma environment
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Start Date: October 23, 2026
• End Date: January 22, 2027
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
• Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed hours
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call Requirement: None
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Typical Patient Ratio: 2 patients per nurse
• Electronic Medical Record: Epic
• Floating: ICU and step-down/PCU assignments within scope

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut, active by the start date; applicants with a pending license may be considered if the application process is underway
• At least 2 years of recent ICU or Surgical ICU (SICU) nursing experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Strong Epic electronic health record charting experience
• Experience caring for critically ill patients in a high-acuity or Level I trauma environment preferred
• Competency in ventilated patient care, airway support, arterial line management, central line care, continuous IV sedation, and vasoactive medication titration
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and recognize and manage dysrhythmias
• Willingness to float to step-down/PCU assignments as needed and within clinical scope
• First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply if they meet the clinical requirements
• Flu vaccination is required

Surgical ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients in a mixed-acuity Surgical ICU and step-down environment
• Assess, monitor, and promptly respond to changes in patient condition, including multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, airway support, continuous sedation, and complex hemodynamic monitoring
• Administer and titrate vasoactive and other continuous IV medications according to clinical protocols
• Perform and document arterial line and central line care, including infection-prevention practices
• Interpret arterial blood gases, cardiac rhythms, and other critical care data to guide interventions
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic
• Support safe patient transitions and float to step-down/PCU assignments when needed
