- Shift Hours: 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Holiday Coverage: As needed; candidates should be prepared to work designated holidays during the assignment
- Floating: May float to other ICU areas and medical-surgical units based on operational needs
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
- Unit Profile: 10-bed neuroscience ICU with an average daily census of approximately 10 patients
Neuro ICU RN Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent Neuro ICU nursing experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
- Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and ENLS certifications
- Current AHA or ARC certification credentials
- Epic electronic health record charting experience required
- Trauma Level I experience required
- Strong clinical background with external ventricular drains, intracranial pressure monitoring, CRRT, and post-angiography care
- Ability to provide care for high-acuity stroke, neurosurgical, and neurological patients
- Availability for weekend, holiday, and potential hardship shift coverage as scheduled
- Pre-approved time off should generally be limited to a maximum of 7 days
Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, SDH, tumors, and other complex neurological diagnoses.
- Monitor and manage patients with external ventricular drains, intracranial pressure monitoring, lumbar drains, post-craniotomy needs, and spinal cord injuries.
- Care for patients following mechanical thrombectomy, embolization, aneurysm repair, AVM repair, carotid stenting, craniectomy, and other neuro-endovascular procedures.
- Manage ventilated patients, fresh tracheostomies, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow oxygen, continuous sedation, neuromuscular blockade, and vasoactive or cardiac infusions.
- Provide CRRT and renal-failure management, including use of Baxter CRRT equipment.
- Perform ongoing neurological assessments, hemodynamic monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, arterial blood gas interpretation, and blood pressure management.
- Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV insulin protocols, and other therapies according to established critical care protocols.
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, rapid response, IV, social services, and other interdisciplinary teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and support safe transitions of care.
- Float to designated critical care or medical-surgical areas when needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.
