Description

American Traveler seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist with acute care and bedside swallow evaluation experience for a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma teaching hospital

Details

  • Acute Care Hospital setting within a Magnet-designated, teaching, Level II Trauma facility with 479 staffed beds
  • Day shift schedule of 5x8-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Requires working every 5th weekend, including both Saturday and Sunday
  • Epic charting system used for documentation
  • May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist required
  • Active Minnesota state license required (license required if applicable); pending licenses not accepted
  • BLS certification required
  • CCC-SLP certification required
  • Acute care experience required
  • Experience with bedside swallow evaluations and treatments required
  • Video fluoroscopy swallow evaluation experience preferred
  • Experience with dysphagia management, tracheostomy, and ventilator-dependent patients preferred
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication devices preferred

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include patient assessment, evaluation, plan of care development, and discharge planning
  • Perform bedside swallow evaluations and treatments, with potential involvement in conducting and interpreting modified barium swallow studies
  • Manage dysphagia care including diet order modifications and use of thickening agents
  • Treat adult patients with conditions such as CVA, TBI, dysarthria, dysphagia, and other nervous system disorders
  • Provide patient and family education as part of care plan
  • Work with adaptive equipment, communication boards, and alternative communication devices as needed
  • Holiday coverage required as needed by the facility
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted per assignment, with no RTO allowed during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
  • All time off requests must be disclosed and approved at the time of consideration
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this role
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must live more than 25 miles from the facility
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 9 months before returning as a traveler
