Speech Therapist (Speech‑Language Pathologist) – Position Description

Location: Canton, Georgia

Position Summary

The Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating communication, cognitive‑communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders. The SLP provides high‑quality therapeutic care to patients across the lifespan and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare and educational teams. The role aligns with Georgia state licensure standards and professional practice guidelines set by ASHA.

Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluation & Treatment
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, cognitive‑communication, and swallowing abilities
  • Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence‑based methodologies
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to address articulation, language development, voice, fluency, dysphagia, and social communication disorders
  • Establish patient‑specific goals and measure progress regularly
  • Educate patients, caregivers, and families on treatment strategies and home programs
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, ASHA standards, and facility policies
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, nurses, teachers, and other team members
  • Provide consultation and support to caregivers, families, or educational staff
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning
Qualifications
  • Active Georgia Speech‑Language Pathologist license (in good standing)
  • Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) from ASHA preferred (or Clinical Fellow—CF—if applicable)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Experience in the specific care setting (outpatient, school, hospital, SNF, pediatrics, adults) preferred
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and patient interaction skills
