Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Profession: Therapy/Rehabilitation Specialty: Acute Care Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care experience required. License: Active Minnesota State License required. Pending License not accepted. Certifications: BLS, CCC-SLP required. Must-Have: Experience with bedside swallow evaluations and treatments required. Preferred: Video fluoroscopy swallow evaluation experience. Description: This position is for a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in an acute care setting. The candidate must have bedside swallow evaluation experience. Experience in swallow treatment is essential. Familiarity with modified barium swallow studies (MBSS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallow (FEES) is preferred. The schedule involves five 8-hour shifts from 8:00 to 16:30. Weekend work will be required every 5th weekend for both Saturday and Sunday. Candidates must be willing to float within their scope to meet facility needs. Local candidates are not accepted if living within 25 miles of the facility. Finalized requests for time off (RTO) must be included with submission. No RTO is allowed within the first week of the assignment, and a maximum of 10 days per assignment. The daily census includes a mix of adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. This role involves working with patients diagnosed with dysphagia, communication disorders, and cognitive impairments. Patients may have conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and more. Interdisciplinary support is available from various teams, including physical therapy and respiratory services. The ideal candidate will have skills in assessment, patient/family education, and developing plans of care. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to modify diet orders and use thickening agents for patients with swallowing difficulties.
