Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Profession: Rehabilitation Therapy Specialty: Speech Therapist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Speech & Language Pathologist license required Certifications: Certificate of Clinical Competence required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred Must-Have: - Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills - Responsible, supportive team player - Strong interpersonal and customer service skills - Analytical, able to make sound decisions - Proficient in Microsoft Office - Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team - Excellent time management and documentation skills - Compassionate and resident-centered care approach - Ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English Description: The Speech Language Pathologist partners with residents and other care providers to provide Speech Language Pathology services to maximize function and independence in daily activities. Performs evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other accepted healthcare provider while observing precautions, indications, and contraindications. Provides evaluation and treatment in the areas of communication disorders and dysphagia, including modified barium swallow. Evaluates residents per department protocols and establishes a therapeutic plan of care that includes functional long- and short-term goals. Specifies frequency and duration of treatment in addition to rehabilitation potential. Seeks input from residents and primary caregivers regarding the therapeutic plan of care. Provides consultation to referring physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the therapeutic and discharge needs of residents. Attends all pertinent team meetings. Monitors and evaluates treatment effects and progresses the treatment program toward the functional goals established in the treatment plan of care. Modifies the treatment plan of care as necessary. Documents all evaluative and therapeutic interactions with residents per department procedures. Ensures that documentation is accessible to others on the care team using language that can be easily understood. Recommends and obtains appropriate communication/swallowing assistive devices for residents, ensuring that instruction has been given in their use. Provides appropriate education to residents or caregivers. Documents response to teaching. Understands regulations related to reimbursement. Maintains clinical knowledge, skills, and competence and shares expertise with others. Provides in-services regarding clinical knowledge and skills to nursing and other departments. Actively assists with the development of new programs and services in Speech Therapy. Maintains clinical skills and competence by staying aware of professional updates through membership in professional organizations and reading professional publications. Brings pertinent issues to the attention of staff. Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time. Coordinates and ensures Speech and Language coverage. Ensures department cleanliness and maintenance by routinely keeping office and clinical areas clean and neat. Assists with routine equipment and space cleaning. Follows all system and department infection control procedures. Performs other duties consistent with this role. Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks associated with this position, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Above 50 pounds requires a two-person lift. Lifting and carrying frequently up to 20 pounds. Some stress is related to a high level of responsibility for quality care.
