Description:
The Speech Language Pathologist partners with residents and other care providers to provide Speech Language Pathology services.
The goal is to maximize residents' function and independence in their daily activities.
Essential duties include supportive promotion of the mission and values of the organization.
Performs evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other accepted healthcare provider while observing precautions, indications, and contraindications.
Provides evaluation and treatment in the areas of communication disorders and dysphagia, including modified barium swallow.
Evaluates residents per department protocols and establishes a therapeutic plan of care that includes functional long- and short-term goals.
Specifies frequency and duration of treatment in addition to rehabilitation potential.
Seeks input from residents and primary caregivers regarding the therapeutic plan of care.
Provides consultation to the referring physician and other members of the healthcare team regarding the therapeutic and discharge needs of the resident.
Attends all pertinent team meetings.
Monitors and evaluates the treatment effect and progresses the treatment program toward the functional goals established in the treatment plan of care.
Modifies the treatment plan of care as necessary.
Documents all evaluative and therapeutic interactions with the resident per department procedures.
Ensures that documentation is accessible to others on the care team using language that can be easily understood.
Recommends and obtains appropriate communication/swallowing assistive devices for residents, ensuring instruction has been given in their use.
Provides appropriate education to the resident or caregiver.
Documents response to teaching.
Understands Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
Maintains clinical knowledge, skills, and competence and shares expertise with others.
Provides in-services regarding clinical knowledge and skills to nursing and other departments.
Actively assists with the development of new programs and services in Speech Therapy.
Maintains clinical skills and competence by being aware of professional updates through membership in professional organizations and reading professional publications.
Brings pertinent issues to the attention of others on staff.
Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
Coordinates and ensures Speech and Language coverage.
Ensures department cleanliness and maintenance by routinely keeping office and clinical areas clean and neat.
Assists with routine equipment and space cleaning.
Follows all system and department infection control procedures.
Performs other duties consistent with this role.
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position.
This includes a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and above 50 pounds requires a 2-person lift.
Lifting/carrying frequently up to 20 pounds is required.
Some stress is related to a high level of responsibility for quality care.
