Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Step-Down/PCU position requiring at least 2 years of med-surg experience, with frequent floating to Med-Surg and Telemetry units in a community hospital setting.

Details

  • 29-bed general surgical and orthopedic unit with medical overflow (4T MS unit) in a community hospital
  • Position frequently floats to Med-Surg and MS/Tele units — candidates must be comfortable performing in all three settings
  • Step-Down patient ratio: 1:4-5; Med-Surg patient ratio: 1:5-6
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, and holiday rotation
  • EMR: Meditech (experience preferred but not required)
  • 13-week contract with possibility of extension

Requirements

  • Active SC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand — SC licensure must be in hand prior to consideration
  • Certifications required: BLS and ACLS (AHA-issued only)
  • Minimum 2 years of med-surg nursing experience required
  • Step-Down/PCU experience required in addition to med-surg background
  • Strong IV therapy skills required, including IV starts, peripheral line care, PICC line management, central line care, and port access
  • No license or background discrepancies will be accepted
  • Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • Clinical skill expectations include telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, cardiac drip titration, vasoactive drip titration, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, heparin protocols, PCA management, wound care/wound vac, and pre/post cardiac cath care among others
  • Orthopedic experience is relevant to this unit, including total joint replacement, traction, peripheral nerve block catheters, and ortho trauma
  • Floating is frequent and done in rotation with staff in accordance with facility policy and Joint Commission standards; an appropriate unit orientation is provided
  • Scrubs are not provided — royal blue or white scrubs required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply; travel experience is preferred but not required
  • Former employees of this facility may return if they have been gone for at least 1 year and left in good standing
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be approved prior to the assignment start date; minimal RTO is expected, particularly in the early weeks of the assignment
