Description

American Traveler is hiring a Step-Down/PCU Registered Nurse for an oncology telemetry unit requiring at least 1 year of PCU and 2 years of acute care experience.

Details

• Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a small amount of med-surg overflow
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses; pediatric patients are rare and primarily cared for by permanent staff
• 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, with assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration/monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Oncology and teaching hospital experience preferred but not required
• 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for the second reference; no coworker references accepted

• Provide high-acuity PCU-level nursing care with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Care for a solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology patient population
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is welcomed even without prior travel experience

• Ohio fingerprinting must be completed urgently upon contract signing; candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract prior to starting, limited to 7 days or less
