Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step-Down unit night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant RN experience and strong cardiac telemetry skills.

Details

  • Hospital step-down / PCU setting with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio (1 RN and 1 CNA/Monitor Tech per 4 beds)
  • Patient population includes A-Fib RVR, hyperglycemia, hypertension requiring drips, and heparin drip management
  • Night shift: 18:45–07:15, alternating 36-hour weeks and 48-hour weeks on a Friday–Sunday schedule
  • Every other weekend required
  • Float requirement to ED IVC Sitter
  • No on-call requirement
  • 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be considered
  • EMR/unit systems: MediTech (documentation), Omnicell (medications)

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Strong cardiac telemetry skills required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocols
  • Proficiency with IV therapy including arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, port access, and peripheral line care
  • Respiratory management skills required: BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and blood product administration
  • Neurological experience required: CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal
  • Orthopedic experience required: total joint replacement
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years are highly preferred (pending references are accepted at time of consideration but must be on file prior to start)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours of unit orientation; hospital orientation occurs during week one and requires attendance at classes each day
  • Pre-start online modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must also be completed annually
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Candidates must be available for a manager interview prior to any offer being extended
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment, and no additional RTO can be requested after signing
  • Candidates who previously worked at this health system (or affiliated facilities) as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must wait 12 months before being eligible; prior employment must be disclosed including facility name and dates
  • Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted but at a different rate
  • Travel pairs are permitted but must be assigned to different units and must have independent transportation
