Job Summary: Step Down Unit registered nurse (RN) position is located in an acute care setting. The role involves providing specialized care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and post-surgical cases, with a focus on patient stabilization and recovery. The position requires adaptability to a fast-paced environment with a commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Job Details:
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice as an RN, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in step-down or telemetry units, proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system, and ability to read and interpret cardiac and respiratory strips.
Float: All areas as helping hands, with the possibility of floating to other units such as medical-surgical or emergency department as needed.
Additional Information: The unit manages a wide variety of patients including those with cardiac, pulmonary, and post-surgical needs. Nurses may be required to titrate specific IV drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine. There is a charge nurse present on each shift, who may occasionally take a lighter patient load. The unit includes nurse aides/patient care techs, and RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry and cardiac strips. The orientation period includes two 12-hour shifts, with additional training provided before working independently.
