Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse is a registered healthcare professional working in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves caring for adult patients transitioning from intensive care to lower acuity units. The position requires proficient management of complex medical procedures and collaborative interdisciplinary support to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Job Details:

• Location: Facility provides high acuity step-down medical care with 29 beds and comprehensive interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, and interpretation services.
• Schedule: Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week, starting 10/19/2026 and ending 01/18/2027.
• Required Qualifications: Valid license in the required state (MO license submitted without license is acceptable; IL license required at time of submission). Certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. A minimum of 2 years of recent experience with adult patient care, patient ratio experience, charting system experience with Epic preferred, and good knowledge of arterial line management, cardiac telemetry, and ventilated patient care.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital experience, and knowledge of trauma and neuro-surgical care are preferred.
• Special Procedures and Equipment: Proficient experience with titration of vasopressors, sedation medications, arterial lines, chest tubes, and trach vented patients is essential. Must have knowledge of Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), OptiFlow, and art line management.
• Additional Information: The unit specializes in high acuity step-down care with complex procedures, including management of vasopressors, sedation, and advanced cardiac and neuro monitoring. The facility maintains a strict protocol for floating within the service line, and all travelers must adhere to compliance policies, including certifications and labs completed within designated timelines.
