- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,930-$2,030
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week, excluding orientation and applicable holiday exceptions
- Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts
- Shift: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends within each six-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Orientation: 12 hours, with biweekly orientation scheduling
- Float Requirement: First to float within the RN's skill set, including nearby campuses when needed; advance notice is provided for cross-campus assignments
- Interview: Clinical interview required
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license with an active compact license
- AHA BLS certification
- AHA ACLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- At least 2 years of recent, solid cardiac stepdown experience plus 1 completed travel nursing contract; candidates without travel experience should have at least 5 years of solid stepdown experience
- Recent EPIC charting experience and willingness to complete an EPIC checkoff class
- Strong telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation skills, with successful completion of required telemetry testing
- Excellent assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking abilities
- Ability to care for patients across cardiac stepdown, telemetry, neuro, and medical-surgical populations
- Availability to work nights, scheduled weekends, holidays, and approved float assignments
Cardiac Stepdown/Neuro RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from cardiac catheterization, stent placement, interventions, pacemaker or ICD procedures, and ablations
- Assess and manage patients experiencing STEMI, NSTEMI, sepsis, DKA, CVA, seizures, and possible traumatic brain injury
- Perform frequent neurological assessments and accurately complete NIHSS evaluations
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs, recognize changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns promptly
- Initiate and titrate ordered infusions, including Cardizem, amiodarone, nicardipine, nitroglycerin, insulin, and heparin
- Provide post-cardiac catheterization care, including femoral access site and TR band management
- Care for patients with chest tubes and perform peripheral IV insertion as appropriate
- Deliver evidence-based sepsis care and closely monitor patients at risk for rapid clinical deterioration
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in EPIC
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Float within the nurse's competency to support patient care needs across nearby units and campuses
- Participate in precepting students and new hires in this teaching-focused environment when assigned
