Job Summary:
The Step Down Unit registered nurse position is based in a facility located in Hastings, Nebraska. This role involves providing specialized patient care on a unit that manages patients transitioning from intensive care but requiring close monitoring and complex treatments. The RN will apply clinical skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality care to adult patients with various diagnoses.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Active ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications, NIHSS, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), at least 2 years of relevant experience, and licensure to practice as a registered nurse.
- Specialty: Step Down Unit
- Experience: Proficiency with chest tubes, identifying arrhythmias, cardioversions, TEEs (Transesophageal Echocardiograms), post heart cath patients, defibrillator operation, pain management, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use.
- Additional Notes:
- The nurse is required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Lasix, electrolytes, dobutamine, and dopamine.
- Occasional care for pediatric patients may be required; pediatric RN coverage is available.
- The unit is equipped with telemetry monitors, CPAP, BiPAP, and tele tech support. RNs are responsible for reading their own strips.
- Staffing includes nurse aides and charge nurses who may take assignments.
- Float assignments may include coverage in medical-surgical units.
- Dress code: any solid color scrub, no designs or prints.
- Orientation includes two days of unit-specific training plus a shift on the floor.
- Travelers are expected to work every third weekend, with flexibility for holidays, which are generally rotated every three weeks.
- No call or standby requirements.
