Job Details:

  • Location: Omaha, Nebraska
  • Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required, Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification preferred but not required
  • Experience Requirements: Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required; open to first-time travelers
  • Unit Information:
    • Type: Step Down Unit (PCU Oncology/Trauma) with 18 beds
    • Primary patient population includes adult oncology and trauma patients
    • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 during days and nights shifts
    • Blood administration: Chemotherapy and titratable drips like insulin and Cardizem are common, with any additional titratable drips manageable by travelers
    • Respiratory equipment includes high-flow oxygen devices, BiPAP, ventilators, as encountered in the unit
  • Support Staff & Resources: Nursing Assistants, Charge Nurse, PT/OT, RN Case Manager, Social Worker, Educator, Dietitian
  • Patient Experience Focus: Hourly rounding and bedside shift reports enhance patient care and satisfaction
  • Team Culture: Emphasizes caring, positivity, teamwork, respect for diverse patient populations, and compassionate care for oncology patients from diagnosis through remission
  • Orientation: Two days of unit-specific orientation
  • Additional Details:
    • Floating to other adult medical/surgical and step down units possible; float assignments maintain same level of care
    • Must possess a valid Drivers license to verify radius restrictions
    • Artificial nails are prohibited; Chemo certification preferred but not mandatory
    • Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring 90% to pass; candidates must comply with unit policies and policies specific to the organization
    • Travelers license submission required and will be used to verify radius compliance
    • The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
    • EMR system: EPIC
    • IV Pumps: Alaris
