Job Summary: This step down unit position is located in Weirton, West Virginia. The role involves providing specialized patient care to cardiac and post-procedure patients in a high-acuity setting. The unit operates 12-hour day shifts, and the position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Job Details:
Schedule: 12-hour days, weekends as scheduled, with a minimum of 36 hours per week starting on 08/24/2026.
Required Qualifications: Must have two years of step down or progressive care unit experience, hold current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications, and possess a valid license to submit.
Patient Care Responsibilities: Includes activities such as ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugars, and responding to patient needs.
Clinical Environment: The unit cares for cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-catheterization, seizure management, and patients on various titratable cardiac drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax.
Staffing & Operational Details: A charge nurse is present on each shift; the day shift charge may take patient assignments only if necessary. Nurse aides/patient care techs are on the unit. RT is available 24/7 to manage respiratory equipment and administer treatments. Telemetry monitoring is conducted bedside, with the ability for nurses to read and interpret strips, print, and measure rhythms.
Orientation: Two days of general orientation plus one day with a preceptor.
Float Policy: Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and are the first to be floated if needed.
Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
Additional Notes: No on-call or standby requirements; possible holiday rotation. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours. The hospital operates with a trauma level acute care setting and utilizes Cerner as its charting system.
Certifications and Experience: Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required; minimum of two years of relevant experience.
