Job Summary:
This is a Step Down Unit registered nurse position located in Omaha, Nebraska. The role involves providing specialized care for patients transitioning from intensive care to less acute settings. The position requires delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on ensuring positive patient outcomes during recovery.

Job Details:

  • Shift Hours: 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Schedule: Every other weekend; self-scheduling to meet unit needs
  • Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
  • Start Date: 08/17/2026
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license to submit; minimum 2 years of experience as a registered nurse; current BLS and ACLS certifications mandated.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in step down or telemetry units is highly preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) through AHA; ONS/ONCC certification preferred (current preferred, not required).
  • Unit Information:
    • Type: Step Down Unit
    • Patient Population: Adult patients recovering from critical illness or surgery needing close monitoring
    • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-1:5 for nights
    • Float: Float to other medical/surgical units is possible, with assignments remaining at the same level of care
    • Orientation: Two days of unit-specific orientation
    • Equipment: High-flow respiratory equipment, IV pumps (Alaris), electronic medical record system (Epic), Lyko lifts in even-numbered rooms
    • Support Staff: Nursing assistants, charge nurse, physical and occupational therapists, case managers, social workers, educators, dietitians
    • Drips & Skills: Care includes titration of insulin, Cardizem, and other titratable drips, including chemotherapy, heparin, Protonix, and more. Travelers should be comfortable managing these medications.
    • Team Culture: Focus on patient care, positivity, teamwork, and diverse patient populations.
  • Additional Information:
    • RN candidates must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation with at least 90% passing score.
    • Candidate drivers license required for radius verification, with a 50-mile radius rule in place.
    • Artificial nails are prohibited; chemotherapy certification preferred but not required.
    • The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
    • EMR: Epic; charting is done electronically.
