Job Summary: This Step Down Unit Nurse position is located in Weirton, West Virginia. The role involves providing specialized patient care in a step-down setting with a focus on cardiac and post-procedural patients. The assignment requires delivering high-quality nursing services in a dynamic inpatient environment, supporting complex clinical needs within a fast-paced hospital setting.
Job Details:
Schedule: 12-hour day/night rotate shifts, with weekends as scheduled, minimum of 36 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications; a minimum of 2 years of step-down or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience; experience with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips such as cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, angiomax.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience reading and interpreting telemonitor strips; familiarity with ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen devices; ability to troubleshoot respiratory equipment.
Duties: Performing activities of daily living, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugar checks. Involves managing patient care with collaboration from hospitalist or intensivist staff available 24/7, and respiratory therapists available around the clock.
Additional Information: The unit accommodates float staff to any inpatient area, with staff being the first to float. Scrubs are navy blue. Orientation includes two days of unit-specific training and one day with a preceptor. The hospital utilizes Cerner electronic charting system.
Licensing and Certification: Candidates must submit a license; working in an acute care setting with the specified certifications is required.
