Job Summary: Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Unit care, located in Kearney, Nebraska. Job Details:
Shift Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 48 hours per week, starting 08/31/2026
Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certifications. Candidates should have at least 2 years of professional nursing experience.
Additional Qualifications: Competency in arterial lines; ability to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin; experience interpreting telemetry strips; knowledge of portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners preferred.
Patient Population & Responsibilities: Care for adult patients with cardiac medical/surgical conditions, dialysis, cancer diagnoses, vascular issues, sepsis, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure. RNs are expected to manage titratable drips, troubleshoot high flow oxygen devices, and interpret telemetry strips.
Unit & Department Notes: The unit has 40 beds with an average daily census of 24 patients, nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 during day and night shifts. Float eligibility includes MedSurg or ICU to manage acuity levels. Overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners are available. Emphasis on patient experience, responsiveness, medication communication, and cultural competency, particularly serving Hispanic and Somali populations.
Schedule & Requirements: Must work every other holiday, with a minimum of two holidays during the contract. Floating to other units is required. Scrub color is navy blue. Orientation includes a one-day department-specific training.
Other Notes: RTO (Request for Time Off) needed upfront, with up to 7 days per 13-week contract. The facilitys charting system is EPIC.
Additional: Use of overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners. The facility has a Level 2 trauma designation and a focus on patient safety and team communication.
