Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Sterile Processing Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Variable Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1+ years preferred License: N/A Certifications: CRCST through HSPA or CBSPD required Must-Have: - Sterile processing - Instrument assembly - Instrument cleaning - Instrument sterilization - Medical equipment disinfection Description: The position is responsible for assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and storing procedure trays, surgical trays, and equipment. Also assembles, distributes, and delivers disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts, and supplies to meet the needs of various departments. Operates and monitors sterilization equipment. Disassembles carts and follows universal precautions for decontamination. Sterilizes and disinfects durable medical equipment and instruments, packages clean supplies and instruments, and maintains records for all instruments. Transports sterilized items as needed. Assembles sterilized instruments and rechecks them for cleanliness and any impairment. Properly checks power equipment. Takes measures to allow for easy instrument tracking, including following labeling processes and reporting any missing instruments and implants replaced in trays. Communicates the equipment and instrument inventory status with the staff and charge nurse, including order status, back orders, and changes. Responds to emergency situations by ensuring all emergency and trauma cases are supplied and delivered in a timely manner. Utilizes applications and technology for accurate record keeping in accordance with regulations. Provides on-the-job training to newly hired associates in the department. Promotes organizational mission, vision, and values and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to float to other departments based on business needs. May be required to be placed on-call during regularly scheduled shifts. Regular attendance during scheduled business hours is required. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team. Experience and understanding in the use of computers, as well as the ability to learn relevant software. Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Ability to work nights and/or weekends. Preferred experience includes previous work in a hospital or clinic operating room.
