Description:
The Central Supply Technician is responsible for the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
This position also functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
Receives, sorts, processes, assembles, or sterilizes both patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to established departmental policies.
Understands all detergents and disinfectants used to process items.
Implements both Universal Precautions and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Operates and loads sterilizers and assures biological tests and Bowie Dick tests are correctly performed, incubated, read, and recorded.
Assures sterilization records are completed correctly by recording all items processed and ensuring the correct label/load gun is used.
Reads and interprets chemical integrators per load and observes and initials all computerized printouts for accuracy.
Adheres to the correct use of computerized instrument count sheets.
Prepares case carts for delivery using doctors' preference information to assemble required instruments, drugs, and special equipment.
Notifies nursing teams in the room of missing items and confers with coordinators about shortages of supplies and equipment.
Completes a daily checklist.
Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 60 lbs., and stands for the length of the shift.
Adheres to standards identified in the organization's competencies.
