Job Title: Sterile Processing Supervisor Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Team Lead Duration: Temporary to Permanent Opportunity Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (07:00 - 15:30) Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing experience; prior leadership experience required License: National certifications in sterile processing are required Certifications: CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) and/or CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) Must-Have: Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems preferred Description: The Sterile Processing Supervisor provides operational and technical leadership for the Sterile Processing Department. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant reprocessing of surgical instruments and medical devices. The supervisor directly oversees Lead Technicians, Technicians I, II, III, and Non-Certified Technicians. Responsibilities include daily workflow coordination, staff competency evaluation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The supervisor collaborates with the Educator and Manager on orientation and training plans. Daily assignments of staff will be based on workload, case volume, and departmental priorities. The role includes monitoring tray turnaround times, instrument availability, and case cart readiness. Troubleshooting equipment, instrument, and workflow issues in real-time is essential. Compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards is mandatory. Auditing tray assembly accuracy and labeling requirements is part of the responsibilities. Conflict resolution related to service concerns will be addressed as needed. Participation in interdisciplinary meetings regarding instrumentation and workflow is expected. The supervisor must ensure adherence to infection control and safety precautions within the department. Monitoring and organizing instrument storage and distribution is crucial for ensuring availability. Preparing instrument trays and equipment for sterilization processes is a key duty. Knowledge of sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices is required. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential for this position. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment is expected. Basic computer proficiency for documentation and recordkeeping is necessary. Advanced certification (CIS, CER, CHL) is preferred. Experience as a preceptor or trainer is an advantage.
