Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Sterile Processing Tech Specialty: Sterile Processing Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience not specified License: None specified Certifications: Sterile Processing Technician certification preferred Must-Have: High School Education/GED required; Associates/Technical Degree preferred Description: Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. Essential Functions: Decontaminates and processes instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts. Sterilizes instruments, trays, basins, etc., with the appropriate exposure and dry times. Prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary. Maintains a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping down counters, sinks, exterior surfaces of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment. Cleans the autoclave chambers weekly. Assists with room turnover and terminal cleaning, as well as daily duties if necessary. Assists with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases. Performs daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs, biological indicators, and diagnostic cycles for processing equipment. Evaluates instruments for function and safety when reprocessing. Provides reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments. Identifies and evaluates loaner instruments prior to processing. Records loaner information in a log for tracking purposes. Maintains biological incubator and log; evaluates biological test results. Provides technical services and assists as assigned and directed. Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to the perioperative services manager. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
